This is a tale of 2 bands.....Once upon a time a long time ago Mike decided to form a band, with some of the best musicians in the North West. After a few changes and introducing a lovely singer and some six years later, the MIKE LOVELL ALLSTARS with ROSIE are going from strength to strength.
Having played at several Jazz Festivals, such as Keswick, Bude, Lancaster, Prestatyn etc. They have been asked to play at the Keswick Jazz Festival several years running and are playing there again in 2011. As well as these venues the MIKE LOVELL ALLSTARS perform in many of the top Jazz Clubs, hotels, casinos, pubs and for many corporate events and fetes, as well as weddings and parties etc.
The MIKE LOVELL ALLSTARS with ROSIE play hot dance music from the 20s 30s & 40s from dixieland to blues to songs from the shows with a mainstream feel.
Most of all they entertain their audiences.
The band can go out with anything from a 4 piece for dinner jazz gigs to a full 7/8 piece band for larger gigs. The full lineup of the band is: trumpet, trombone, reeds, vocalist/reeds, piano, double bass and drums.
Mike then put together a Dixieland band SIX-IN-BAR with ROSIE..... so, again with the very best dixieland players in the North and some 5 years on, SIX-IN-A-BAR is one of the most sought after bands in the North West. The line-up for this band is: Willy Entwistle, reeds (clarinet, alto, flageolet etc.), Mike Lovell, trombone, Rosie Harrison, vocalist & reeds (clarinet, soprano, tenor etc.) Chris Howse, banjo / tenor guitar, Colin Turner, bass sax / Bb tuba / Andy Henderson, Cornet and Pete Eddowes, drums.
As with the ALLSTARS, SIX-IN-A-BAR have played at many of the Jazz Festivals and many of the top Jazz Clubs as well as all the other indoor and outdoor events
In 2008 Mike and the band were asked to go out to Bottrop, Germany to represent Blackpool in the twin town celebrations...along with musicians from Poland, Hungary, France etc.
